THE LADYBIRD LADY

A small painting of a woman and her ladybug

I recently painted some small gouache and watercolour paintings on board and this is one of them. I really like painting quite small sometimes. Each brushstroke defines the work entirely, a wiggle here and there, and she’s got a bouffant updo or sometimes something less fortunate. You can spend an evening just pushing the paint around, layering more each time with every ‘mistake’ to result in a piece you never could have planned, which I love. I think this little painting is very much about being in presence of another’s company, nothing being said, just a comfort in knowing they are nearby

@izziehilly Just simply being nearby 🐞 a little bit about one of my recent small paintings on board (also not sure why I said the lady was on the ladybird’s shoulder ..? Not sure how that would logistically work. Maybe the lady was a gymnast in her past life and has impeccable balance. Do ladybirds even have shoulders?) #gouachepainting #ladybugpainting ♬ No Machine - Adrianne Lenker
